Patti LaBelle performs hits and gospel in DMV

The original diva, Ms. Patti LaBelle, delivered a set full of that iconic voice

Iconic soul singer Patti LaBelle took the stage at MGM National Harbor in a shimmery black blazer with puffy right shoulder on Thursday night (Feb 6th). Throughout the night, she endeared herself to the crowd with her sense of humor and gratitude. At one point, she kicked her silver pumps off and one went flying into the crowd. “You’re gonna have to give that back,” she jested.

Powering through a cold, she seemed most comfortable in her highest register. LaBelle shined on “Somebody Loves You Baby” and “On My Own.” The latter was performed with stunning background vocalist Aaron Marcellus.

After a brief interlude by her stellar band, LaBelle returned to the stage in a stunning green ballgown. She performed a set of gospel songs to an enthusiastically receptive audience. The show culminated, of course, with her classic hit “Lady Marmalade.”

LaBelle is celebrating 65 of her 80 trips around the sun being in show business. And this First Lady of Soul shows no sign of retiring any time soon.
