Pyle talks about the ill-fated plane crash in 1977
Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle is a true Street Survivor. He’s been been through three airplane crashes, multiple car wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, shot and stabbed, but is in overall pretty good health at 74 years old.
In 2020, MVD Entertainment released Street Survivors: The True Story Of The Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, recreating the story about the ill-fated flight that crashed in the swamps of Gillsburg, MS on October 20, 1977. The film is told through the eyes of Pyle, who not only survived the plane crash that claimed the life of the band’s founder and front man Ronnie Van Zant, amongst others, but who also physically pulled the remaining survivors out of the plane wreckage before staggering towards the nearest farmhouse in rural Louisiana to seek help. Pyle narrates the film and also contributes original music to its soundtrack.
The film was scripted and directed by Jared Cohn (Devil’s Revenge, Devil’s Domain), produced by Brian Perera and co-produced by Tim Yasui for Cleopatra Entertainment. Pyle talks to us about the inspiration behind the film and why it’s being reissued two years after its initial release.
