R. Kelly’s Black Panties enters at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, No. 2 on R&B Albums chart and No. 3 on Digital Albums chart, according to this week’s Nielsen SoundScan. Black Panties marks Kelly’s tenth Top 5 debut on the Top 200 chart and his twelfth consecutive debut at either No. 1 or No. 2 on the R&B Albums chart.

Released December 10th on RCA Records, Black Panties has received rave reviews including USA Today’s “Album of the Week” three and a half (out of four) stars review, citing Black Panties as “one of the most honest, frank and compelling listening experiences of the year.” Rolling Stone affirms that “Kells’ voice remains one of the most flexible and inventive instruments in pop…”

Since the 1993 release of his solo debut album 12 Play, no other artist has possessed the musical versatility quite like R. Kelly, evident by chart-topping hits that range from “Bump N’ Grind” and “Your Body’s Calling” to Grammy Award winning “I Believe I Can Fly” and everything in between. In addition to recent collaborations with Lady Gaga (“Do What U Want”), Justin Bieber (“PYD”) and Bruno Mars (“Gorilla” remix), R. Kelly has scored hit songs for Michael Jackson (“You Are Not Alone”), Celine Dion (“I’m Your Angel”), Maxwell (“Fortunate”) and countless others.

Named No. 1 on Vibe Magazine’s list of “20 Greatest Musical Geniuses Since ’93,” R. Kelly has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, has won three Grammy Awards (24 nominations), six American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards, eight Soul Train Awards and three NAACP Image Awards.
