Trio plays selection of hits to wrap six year residency

The time has finally happened… I made it to Las Vegas to see Reba, Brooks & Dunn: Together in Vegas for the first (and second) time this weekend with Matt Bailey and my daughter in tow for night one. Unfortunately, it seems like it will be the last time anyone will see country music’s longest residency as it currently appears when it wraps next weekend after an unprecedented six year run.

As expected, the trio didn’t disappoint after an unexpected two year delay due to the pandemic. They had last played the Colosseum at Caesars Palace stage in December 2019 before resuming on December 1st.

The sold out crowd on Friday (Dec 3rd) and Saturday (Dec 4th) roared as the three country icons graced the stage to perform a selection of hits together and solo. Friday’s crowd was more rowdier and stood much of the night while Saturday’s was bit more soft with hardly anyone standing until Ronnie Dunn proclaimed, “It’s okay to stand,” towards the end of the night. Members of Reba’s family were in the audience both nights.

Each show includes several costume changes by the redhead and many comedic moments between the three, further cementing Reba, Kix and Ronnie’s 30 year friendship. “I look forward to seeing the rest of that dress,” Brooks says as Reba walks offstage to change. “Shut up, Kix,” Reba slaps back.

They kick the show off with Brooks & Dunn’s “Play Something Country” before launching into Reba’s “Why Haven’t I Heard From You.” The three continue to share the stage and trade songs during a medley of their hits. Much of the show features an alternating variety of staples from both artists performing separately. However, they also join each other for classic duets of “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” and “Oklahoma Swing” while working new duet and triet (a term they coined when “If You See Him, If You See Her” was released in 1998) versions of some of their classic hits including the aforementioned “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” and “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone.”

The show was nothing short of spectacular. With a running time of two hours, it gives fans everything they could want and more. Most artists don’t share co-headlining residencies, but this one works so well, they should take it on the road starting next summer. Since opening in June 2015, the residency has played 99 shows to more than 300,000 fans, as of press time. It will wrap with 105 under its belt.

Shows at the Colosseum are top notch. This was my first (and second) time there, and the sound was amazing. You can clearly hear each of the band members, which is 10 pieces made up of both of their touring bands. The stage setup is so remarkable that it made my 13th row seat feel like I was fourth row when the artists visited my side.

Anyone who can make it to Las Vegas to see the final six shows (Dec 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15), should absolutely do so. It will not be regrettable.
