Reba calls writing the ‘Happy’s Place’ theme song with Carole King ‘a dream come true’

The country star is on a media tour supporting her new sitcom

Reba McEntire has been making the media rounds in New York City this week to support her new NBC sitcom Happy’s Place. Among the stops for the multi-faceted country star include The Tonight Show With Jimmy FallonThe Kelly Clarkson Show, NBC Today, and SiriusXM.

Reba spoke with SiriusXM Hits 1 host Ben Harlum about writing the Happy’s Place theme song with Carole King.

“Getting to write a song with Carole King, she’s my hero,” Reba tells SiriusXM Hits 1. “We’re friends, super, super talented, but warm-hearted. I just love her with all my heart. To get to write a song with her, that’s a dream come true for any singer-songwriter. And she was very gracious and said, ‘Yeah, I’ll help you.’ Because I’d gotten the music the way I wanted and I’d written a little bit. And so I sent all that to her and she came back with a totally well, very well-written song. And I said, ‘Carole, I’m a little attached to what my melody is. Can I marry the two?’ She said, ‘Absolutely. Go for it.’ And she loved the outcome.”

Happy’s Place, which reunites some of her Reba team, premiered on October 18th to a warm reception, garnering ten million viewers across NBC and Peacock. The debut marks the best new NBC comedy launch yet and improved its timeslot by 90 percent in total viewers. The series airs on Fridays at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC or the next day on Peacock.

Reba also tells Harlum that she’d love to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I’d love to do a Marvel comic. I wanna be a, like a female, Reba McEntire Power Ranger or something like that in, you know, a Marvel movie,” she says. “My superpower would be able to talk to animals.”

Earlier in the week, Reba appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon where she discussed accidentally getting high while taking care of her ailing mother in 2020.

“When we started going to bed, I said, ‘Mama, let’s get ahead of this pain. I’m gonna give you half of this,'” she explained about trying 25 milligrams of a gummy for the first time. “She said, ‘Well, what do I do with it?’ I said, ‘Put it in between your cheek and your gum like a dip of Skoal or something,’ you know? So, she did, and boy, she just went to sleep. I thought, ‘Well, shoot. Mama’s taking it. I need to see what she’s experiencing.”

The redheaded superstar continued to explain that she saw “weeds and flowers growing out of my head” and then consulted with family who was more familiar with the process the next day about exactly what she took.
