Season three premieres this fall

Reba McEntire is joining the cast of David E. Kelley’s Big Sky as a series regular for its upcoming third season on ABC. The country star will play Sunny Brick in the drama series. Brick is “a mercurial matriarch of the Brick Family, a successful backcountry outfitter with a secret history of missing customers,” according to Deadline.

The series is based on the books by CJ Box that follow a private detective and her former partner as they investigate local crimes, take on drug syndicates, notorious kidnappers, crime dynasties and more.

She’s one of several new cast additions which include Jensen Ackles and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

McEntire is clearly no stranger to television as she starred and executive produced her eponymous self-titled sitcom from 2001-2007 on The WB/The CW. She also starred in the short lived Malibu Country for ABC in 2012-2013. She’s also guest appeared in Tim Allen’s Last Man StandingReba co-star Melissa Peterman’s Baby Daddy and Working Class, and alongside Jami Gertz in The Neighbors. She’s had a recurring role on the CBS series, Young Sheldonfor the past few seasons.

In 2017, McEntire shot a pilot with producer Marc Cherry for ABC called Red Blooded, described as a “Southern Gothic soap opera” starring McEntire as a small town sheriff. The network ultimately passed, but Cherry had said he was interested in re-shopping the series to streaming outlets for a better fit.

In fall 2020, it was announced McEntire was attached to star in a television adaptation of the novel and film Fried Green Tomatoes at NBC. The country star was also set to executive produce the hour long drama series alongside Norman Lear. NBC ultimately passed on the show.
