Reba returns strongly with ‘Going Out Like That’

Reba returns strongly with “Going Out Like That,” her first single in more than three years. The country redhead released the track to iTunes late Monday night (Jan 5th), slightly ahead of its midnight ET scheduled release.

The uptempo track is pure Reba! It features a driving drum beat with the right mix of stringed instruments, including steel guitar, under her soaring and passionate vocals. As one of the songs included in a leaked radio survey, the song is reminiscent of her Nineties heyday where she topped the charts, scored countless awards and sold out major tours by capturing the listener with her strong-willed women songs. It reminds me of her hit, “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter” from her 1994 album, Read My Mind, in which the woman is looking for love after many failed attempts.

The chorus sings:

“He thought she’d be sitting home crying
She ain’t going out like that
She’s had enough feeling like dying
She ain’t going out like that
Everybody, here comes the life of the party
He might’ve left her broken hearted
But she ain’t going out like that”

Written by some of today’s top Nashville songwriters, Rhett Akins (who first opened for Reba on her 1995 tour alongside Toby Keith), Ben Hayslip and Jason Sellers, the song stands out from current radio singles by not incorporating the dreaded pre-programmed beats and percussion sounds, known as EDM (or electronic dance music).

The other two survey songs, “Enough” with Jennifer Nettles and “Love Somebody,” are heavy on computer programming, so I’m surprised this one was chosen as the first single. However, I am glad this one was picked because it will bring more of a country sound back to country radio.

This song could easily return Reba where she belongs… at the top of the charts and regain her Queen of Country Music crown!

The song will be included on her upcoming Nash Music Records album, her first for the label and first album in nearly five years. Nash Music Records is part of the Big Machine Label Group in partnership with Cumulus Media and the Nash brand.

The single impacts radio on Monday, January 12th, but will be played once every hour on Tuesday, January 6th, on Nash FM’s America’s Morning Show with Blair Garner as part of #RebaDay where fans share the news of her new single via social media.
