Organizers of Record Store Day have announced the List of exclusive and limited edition titles available only via indie record stores. The 15th annual celebration is slated for April 23rd at participating independent record stores worldwide with a designated RSD Drops date of June 18th for titles that won’t be ready by the April date.
Alice in Chains, Allman Brothers Band, Bad Company, David Bowie, Blondie, Chicago, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, Peter Gabriel, Billy Gibbons, The Grateful Dead, Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett, Joan Jett, Elton John, Judas Priest, The Kinks, Joni Mitchell, Motorhead, Stevie Nicks, Pearl Jam, Iggy Pop, Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lou Reed, Keith Richards, Santana, Slash, Patti Smith, Ringo Starr, Pete Townshend, and U2 are among the artists releasing exclusive titles.
Blondie will release a limited edition EP featuring “Sunday Girl.” The bespoke Record Store Day release will include a deluxe two disc, four-track 7-inch set on red and yellow vinyl, set inside a stunning gatefold sleeve featuring rare photos from the period. Disc one (red) features the original single plus the French version. Disc two (yellow) features two previously unreleased tracks – a demo from 1978 and a live version recorded at the Paramount Theatre, Portland, in January 1979.
David Bowie has a pair of EP releases available on CD and LP. The Brilliant Adventure EP contains four unheard songs from the Outside era, and two tracks performed by Bowie and pianist Mike Garson at a fundraiser for the New York Public Theater at the Shakespeare Festival in New York on September 18, 1995. The Toy EP (You’ve Got It Made With All The Toys) features the previously unheard “Shadow Man (Vocal and Piano Mix),” an alternative, stripped-back mix of the Toy album track, along with the unreleased live versions of “I Dig Everything” and “The London Boys” recorded at the final Glastonbury warm-up show at the Roseland Ballroom, New York on June 19, 2000. The EP also contains three tracks, “You’ve Got A Habit of Leaving (Radio Edit),” “Silly Boy Blue (Alternative Ending Mix)’ and “Can’t Help Thinking About Me (Live Mark Radcliffe Show BBD Radio 1 Session), previously only available as streaming singles and which are making their physical debut.
Elton John will issue The Complete Thom Bell Sessions featuring the full recording session including the singles “Are You Ready for Love” and the Top 10 hit, “Mama Can’t Buy You Love.” Originally recorded in 1977, only three tracks were released in 1979. Available for the first time on colored vinyl, this reissue is pressed on 180-gram purple vinyl.
Red Hot Chili Peppers will issue a special version of the new double album, Unlimited Love. The RSD special version includes two LPs pressed on silver vinyl, an exclusive 24 x 36 poster, and the sleeve printed on silver board.
The Rolling Stones will issue More Hot Rocks (Big Hits & Fazed Cookies) [50th Anniversary], featuring some of the iconic band’s best deep cuts, and a whole LP side’s worth of rarities previously unavailable in the US when it was originally released in 1972. This edition will be pressed on 180-gram glow-in-the-dark vinyl with a gatefold jacket and include a set of Gered Mankowitz photo prints. Audio is remastered by Bob Ludwig.
U2 is honoring the 40th anniversary of A Celebration with a limited edition 12-inch vinyl record. The 40th anniversary limited edition reissue is a 4-track EP containing two previously unreleased recordings. The first is a studio outtake of the title track. The second is a performance of B-side and live favorite “Trash, Trampoline And The Party Girl,” recorded live in October 2015 in Köln, Germany during the iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour.
Taylor Swift has been named Record Store Day Global Ambassador for 2022.
