Event will be held over three months
Organizers of Record Store Day have decided to social distance the annual event’s 2020 releases due to COVID-19. The event — now renamed RSD Drops — was initially moved from April 18th to June 20th due to the coronavirus outbreak, but now will be spread out over three days in three different months later in the year as rules towards social distancing orders remain unknown.
Titles will now be released on August 29th, September 26th and October 24th to independent record stores worldwide.
“No one knows what kind of party we’ll all be in the mood for, or able to hold safely, at any time this year, in any part of the world,” organizers share. “So we’re focusing this year not on the party aspect of Record Store Day, but on getting the great releases on the RSD 2020 List into your local record store, and then into your collection.”
The List, which was unveiled in March, will be reissued with the new drop dates on June 1st via recordstoreday.com. The List displays a gamut of genres featuring popular artists and soundtracks including Britney Spears, Post Malone, The Rolling Stones, Toto, Eminem, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie and more. Brandi Carlile has been tapped as Record Store Day Ambassador 2020.
