Red Hot Chili Peppers score No 1 with ‘Dark Necessities’

Red Hot Chili Peppers “Dark Necessities” is the No. 1 song on both the BDS and Mediabase Alternative charts, extending their record for the artist with the most No. 1 singles in Modern Rock chart history with 13 total. To date, the band has spent 86 total weeks at the No. 1 position throughout their career (also a record). “Dark Necessities” is the band’s 14th song to reach the Top 5 and 25th to reach the Top 10 on the Alternative Chart. Last week “Dark Necessities” simultaneously topped the Rock and AAA charts.

Red Hot Chili Peppers previous Number One Modern Rock tracks are: 1991’s “Give It Away,” 1993’s “Soul to Squeeze,” 1995’s “My Friends,” 1999’s “Scar Tissue,” 2000’s “Otherside” and “Californication,” 2002’s “By the Way” and “Can’t Stop,” 2006’s “Dani California,” (which spent 14 weeks at No. 1 and is one of a few songs in the history of Billboard’s Alternative Chart to debut in the top spot), “Tell Me Baby,” and Snow (Hey Oh) and 2011’s “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie.”

“Dark Necessities” is the debut single from the band’s 11th studio album The Getaway released by Warner Bros. Records on June 17th. The album debuted at number one around the world. The Getaway marks the Grammy Award-winning band’s seventh top 10 album. The album debuted at # 1 in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands and New Zealand.
