GRAMMY winning hit achieves rare diamond status with over 10 million in US sales

Multi-GRAMMY Award-winning band Train’s global hit “Hey, Soul Sister” continues to reach new milestones, as it has now been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for amassing more than 10 million in sales and stream equivalents in the U.S.

“Hey, Soul Sister being the 49th song certified as a diamond record is such a surreal honor,” shares Train frontman Pat Monahan . “Thank you to all of you who own a copy. We all love and appreciate you. What a weird trip it’s been. Here’s to being around each other soon so we can all dance and sing this one loud and together. Love, Pat”

Initially released in 2009, Train’s iconic anthem, “Hey, Soul Sister,” is one of just 49 songs in history that have been certified diamond, having gone platinum 10 times in the U.S. The 2011 GRAMMY Award-winning lead single from the band’s multi-platinum album Save Me, San Francisco was the No. 1 best-selling smash and most downloaded single of 2010. Having reached No. 1 in 16 countries and certified platinum in nine countries including the U.S., “Hey, Soul Sister” remains Train’s highest-charting song to date. The track spent over a year on the Billboard Hot 100, charting at No. 3, and spent 22 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot AC chart. “Hey, Soul Sister” was named one of Billboard’s Top 15 Adult Pop songs of all time and Top 100 songs of the decade.

Train has sold more than 10 million albums and 30 million tracks worldwide, with multiple platinum/gold citations, including three GRAMMY Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and dozens of other honors. They’ve had 12 albums on the Billboard 200 albums chart with their 2014 Bulletproof Picasso reaching No. 4 in 2012 and 2017’s A Girl A Bottle A Boat debuting at No. 8 with the lead single, “Play That Song,” having been certified platinum in four countries including the U.S.

Monahan partakes in other ventures outside of music, including his award-winning wine portfolio, Save Me, San Francisco Wine Co, which was created in 2011 and has sold over 10 million bottles and won over 100 medals. Proceeds from his wine business support Family House, a San Francisco charity that supports families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
