Righteous Brothers continues their legacy in Las Vegas

This Righteous revival celebrates eight years of success

Bill Medley and Bucky Heard, the Righteous Brothers, call South Point casino their home for a monthly Las Vegas engagement.

The concert opened with a spirited “Hold On.” They followed it immediately with a Righteous Brothers’ Top 10 hit, the Carole King-penned “Just Once in my Life.”

Bucky Heard was hand-chosen by Medley as “the only singer” who could stand on for the legendary, late Bobby Hatfield. Medley’s affection for Heard’s talent was demonstrated when he handed the stage over to Bucky for a cover of “Crying,” which earned a standing ovation.

Hatfield’s presence is felt throughout the show, with the stories before each song acting as a tribute to his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-worthy legacy. Bill Medley’s version of “Unchained Melody” featured a heartfelt video montage.

Medley’s voice retains that gravely bass-baritone that works well on fast pace “ass-kicking rock” (his words), as it does on slower adult contemporary tracks or gospel. The three backing vocalists complimented his voice on “Great Getting Up Morning.”

Bucky Heard’s higher register pairs well with the richness of Medley’s voice. He can masterfully belt. And just as well, Medley discovered Heard as part of a Journey cover band.

“You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’” sent the crowd home, our souls filled with a type of music they just don’t make anymore. Their gratitude to hear this catalog was palpable. Every note proves it was the right decision by Medley to reinvigorate the Righteous Brothers name.

Just like the lyric in “Unchained Melody” says about giving and waiting for love, Medley and Heard continue to give this music to the fans who need it.
