Sacha Baron Cohen drops out of Queen biopic

Cohen has left over “creative differences”

Sacha Baron Cohen has exited the role of Freddie Mercury in the Sony Pictures/GK Films long-awaited Queen movie. Deadline reports the actor has left due to “creative differences.”

The movie has been in pre-production for several years with the Borat star signing on to play the gay iconic singer in late 2010. Despite Cohen bearing an identical resemblance to Mercury, insiders report that the surviving members of the legendary rock group didn’t approve Cohen or his team, writer Peter Morgan and directors David Fincher and Tom Hooper, to helm the project.

Reports indicate Queen is wanting a PG movie about the band instead of Cohen’s gritty R-rated tell all centered around Mercury.

Many are now wondering if the movie will ever see the light of day as producers Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Queen Films search for a new lead.
