The controversial talk show host was fired due to “racially-charged tweets.”
Anthony Cumia from SiriusXM’s Opie & Anthony channel has been fired by the satellite broadcasters for what they call “racially-charged and hate-filled remarks” on social media.
The firing occurred late Thursday (July 3rd) after the controversial radio show host fired off a series of expletive-filled tweets earlier this week where he alleged that an African American woman attacked him while he was taking photos in New York City’s Times Square. The host used offensive words and made racist statements in the Twitter tirade.
SiriusXM’s Senior VP of Communications, Patrick Reilly, released the following statement on Friday (July 4th):
“SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel. The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3 after careful consideration of his racially-charged and hate-filled remarks on social media. Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents.”
After being notified of his firing, the shock jock went on yet another tirade.
No word on SiriusXM’s plans for the future of the show.
