SiriusXM hosting Tom Petty ‘Somewhere You Feel’ Week

Celebration is in honor of what would be Petty’s 71st birthday on Oct 20th

SiriusXM is celebrating what would’ve been Tom Petty’s 71st birthday with a week of special programming coinciding with the theatrical release of the new documentary film, Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making Of Wildflowers. The sat rad will play exclusive documentary previews, a special Guest DJ special from GRAMMY Award winner Jim Scott — the engineer of Wildflowers — and archival programming available exclusively on the SXM App, and Tom Petty Radio (Ch. 31) from October 18th through October 24th.

A roundtable discussion with director Mary Wharton, Petty’s daughter Adria Petty, film producers, and more will be led by Tom Petty Radio host David Fricke. The conversation was held at this year’s SXSW film festival in Austin, TX.

It’s been a year since Wildflowers & All The Rest was released via Warner Records. Co-producer Ryan Ulyate takes fans into the studio during the making of the album to show what happened between the takes. Fans will hear a mix of covers, studio jams, and fun improvised songs from Petty and the band that won’t be heard anywhere else.

Two special Broken Record Podcast episodes can be heard. “Tom Petty and the Creation of Wildflowers” features Malcolm Gladwell talking with Rick Rubin about Petty and their work together on Wildflowers. “Wildflowers II with Adria Petty” sees producer Rick Rubin talking with Adria Petty about her memories of her dad and the hard curatorial work of putting together the box set Wildflowers & All The Rest.
