Billy Corgan and Smashing Pumpkins have announced that its long-awaited album, Monuments To An Elegy, will be released on CD and vinyl formats December 9th.
Monuments is the second volume of three that is part of the band’s massive concept album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope which began in 2012 with Oceania and will wrap with 2015’s Day For Night.
The first single, “Being Beige,” was released exclusively via Rolling Stone on Monday (Oct 20th) and features an acoustic guitar over a drum machine to start before the full band arrives later.
“People always ask me to explain songs, and honestly I can’t,” Corgan tells Rolling Stone. “But if there’s honesty in this lyric, it’s that there’s something amiss in our cosmos. Yet still, we must love.”
In March, Corgan announced that the band signed a new deal with BMG Music and would be releasing an album in 2014 and 2015. Shortly after the double album announcement, Corgan advised fans that Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee was recording drums for Monuments.
