Smashing Pumpkins working on new album, set UK tour

Billy Corgan announces the news on Twitter

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has announced on Twitter that the band will soon begin work on a new, as-of-yet-untitled album.

“Excited to announce today’s our 1st official day of writing for new SP album. Wish us luck!” Corgan writes on March 25th.

The album will be the follow-up to the band’s generally well-received but poor-selling June 2012 release Oceania.

In addition to the work on the new album, the band also has three concerts scheduled for this summer in the United Kingdom:

Manchester Academy (July 1)
Glasgow O2 Academy (July 2)
London Wembley Arena (July 22)

All tour dates and recordings will, of course, feature Corgan’s new Smashing Pumpkins lineup.  Corgan is the only remaining original member of the band, with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin exiting in 2009.

More details as they become available.
