SONGS Music Publishing has announced that they have signed Lorde, aka Ella Yelich-O’Connor, to a worldwide co-publishing deal. The agreement encompasses future recordings, as well as Lorde’s debut EP, The Love Club, her highly successful debut album Pure Heroine and its hit single “Royals.”

“When all is said and done, Ella Yelich-O’Connor will go down as one of the greatest lyricists of all time,” states SONGS President and Head of A&R Ron Perry, who is responsible for the signing. “To say that I’m thrilled to work with Ella and her managers, Scott Maclachlan and Tim Youngson, is an incredible understatement.”

A New Zealand native, Lorde exploded onto the scene earlier this year with her debut single and video “Royals,” which has spent six weeks at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 charts. She is the youngest solo female artist to attain the top spot in 25 years and the only artist from New Zealand to ever reach Number One on Billboard’s Hot 100. The track also reigned supreme atop Billboard’s Alternative Track Chart for seven weeks, the longest in the 25 year history of the chart by a female artist. Not confined to Pop and Alternative categories, “Royals” was a Number One rock song and is a huge success at other formats, currently sitting at #2 on the Mediabase Rhythmic airplay chart and at 28 on the Mediabase Urban airplay chart.

Her debut album, Pure Heroine entered Billboard’s album charts at #3 and has remained in the Top 10 to date.  In the U.S., Lorde has already performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Ellen.

A true global phenomenon, Lorde’s Pure Heroine has gone four times platinum in Australia, spawning three hit singles in the process. “Royals” debuted at #1 in her home country of New Zealand, with Pure Heroine achieving three times platinum. In the UK, she entered the charts at number one with “Royals,” becoming the youngest solo artists to debut in the top spot in the UK in 15 years.

“Ella is a once in a generation songwriter and artist,” said Matt Pincus, SONGS Founder and CEO. “All of us at SONGS believe she is going to be a defining voice in music for many, many years to come. It is a tremendous honor that she has chosen SONGS as her partner.”
