Steven Tyler Skittles Super Bowl ad released

The Skittles Super Bowl ad featuring Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has been released online, ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl 50. The 30-second spot is the first television commercial in the brand’s long-running “Taste the Rainbow” campaign to feature a real-life celebrity. It was inspired by a trend of Skittles fans making things out of Skittles (pictures, recipes, stop-motion films, etc.), and Tyler’s interaction with his “Skittles portrait” brings the concept to life in a way we think fans will enjoy.

This is only the second time Skittles has advertised in the Super Bowl. The brand made its debut last year and the ad helped make Skittles the top-selling non-chocolate confections brand in the U.S.

This year’s ad was made by ad agency DDB Chicago. It will air during the game’s second quarter.

Skittles made a stir in the days leading up to the ad’s release by announcing a contest to inspire fans to “root for the rainbow” on Super Bowl Sunday, with the help of some of the best players in the game. If a rainbow appears in the Bay Area on game day, Skittles will give away 100,000 free packs (to fans that use the hashtags #SkittlesRainbow and #Contest prior to kickoff.) To get people thinking about the weather, the brand had Panthers star Luke Kuechly and Broncos star DeMarcus Ware doing weather segments on local newscasts.
