Summer Sonic 2020 Festival features Green Day, Rihanna, others

Virtual festival goes digital this summer

One of the world’s biggest annual music festivals, Summer Sonic, will go digital this summer in light of COVID-19. Organizers are set to stream legendary archival live performances of Coldplay, The Flaming Lips, Oasis, Green Day, Rihanna, Nine Inch Nails and others on Wednesday, July 22nd and Thursday, July 23rd for free via the Summer Sonic YouTube channel.

“Originally this is the time to enter the summer festival season, but let’s share the excitement of that live online this year,” organizers share. “To make you feel the festival, we will connect the live images and deliver one each on 22nd (Wednesday) and 23rd (Thursday).”

Day one features Boom Boom Satellites from 2009, B’z from 2009, Coldplay from 2008, The Flaming Lips from 2009, Oasis from 2005, Sigur Ros from 2012, and Sonic Youth from 2009. Day two includes Green Day from 2012, Nine Inch Nails from 2009, The Prodigy from 2008, Rihanna from 2012, and X Japan from a 2011 world tour stop which took them to Asia, Europe, South America, and culminated in New York’s at Madison Square Garden.

The streams will only be available for 24 hours beginning at 7 am Eastern.
