Mexican Pizza returns to menus later this month

From Live Más Productions comes Mexican Pizza: The Musical, a star-studded production made for Mexican Pizza fans, by Mexican Pizza fans. The cast features Dolly Parton, the global music icon and influential Taco Bell superfan who confirmed her role in the hottest off-off Broadway production. Parton joins Taco Bell’s biggest fans for a satirical musical about the “harrowing” story of those who fought to bring back the Mexican Pizza, featuring notable moments from Doja Cat’s triumphant journey.

Fans were already asking for a Taco Bell musical on Twitter earlier this week following an exchange between the Mexican Pizza queen herself, Doja Cat and Victor Kunda, who first went viral on TikTok following his creative interpretation of what a Mexican Pizza musical rehearsal could look like, based off of Doja Cat’s iconic and extremely catchy Mexican Pizza jingle.

The fast food giant is prepping the 30 minute Mexican Pizza: The Musical for a TikTok premiere on May 26th at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.

“We’re telling the Mexican Pizza fan story – in song! Tune in for the live premiere of #MexicanPizzaTheMusical to celebrate with fans like you who helped bring it back. See you 5/26,” the company shares on social media.

Written by Hannah Friedman with music by Grammy award-winning songwriting duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Mexican Pizza: The Musical will feature original music to spotlight the brand’s biggest fans featuring special appearances from Victor Kunda, TikTok extraordinaire, Doja Cat, Dolly Parton and more.

Be on the lookout for upcoming TikTok challenges where fans will get to create duet videos with the stars of the musical.

The fan favorite item will be back on the menu beginning May 19th. Doja Cat, the voice of the Taco Bell people, was one of the first to confirm the news in April, when she literally dropped the mic with the hot news of the Mexican Pizza’s return.

Equally vocal with their pleas for the menu items return were 200K+ signers of a Change.org petition, spearheaded by superfan Krish Jagirdar.

“Like many Indian-Americans who grew up vegetarian, we had limited access to the ‘fun’ fast food, so Taco Bell became a bridge to belonging in American culture for many kids like me who grew up in immigrant households,” Jagirdar says in the petition. “That’s what made it especially devastating when the Mexican Pizza was pulled from menus in 2020, but fast forward two years later and I found myself on a conference call with the Taco Bell team as they shared news of the return of the Mexican Pizza, showing that listening to their fans is clearly embedded in their DNA. It’s one of the many reasons Taco Bell is more than just another fast-food restaurant.”

Taco Bell promises that fans in Aruba, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic will also have the beloved Mexican Pizza back on their menus at participating restaurants on May 19th.
