Preliminary toxicology results are in

A preliminary toxicology report from a Taylor Hawkins urine sample has found 10 different substances in his body at the time of death. A report by the Office of the Attorney General in Colombia indicate marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids were among those substances.

Authorities are still investigating.

The world was shocked on Friday (Mar 25th) when the Foo Fighters drummer’s death was announced by the band. A preliminary police report released earlier on Saturday (Mar 26th) indicated drugs were a possible cause.

“The cause of death is yet to be established. According to versions of relatives, the death could be associated with the consumption of narcotic substances,” the report stated.

The band was on tour in South America when Hawkins had complained of chest pains. Staff at the Casa Medina hotel near Bogota, Colombia, where the band was staying, had called for emergency personnel, but was found deceased after doctors arrived with an ambulance. Efforts to resuscitate Hawkins were unsuccessful.

His body was removed form the scene as a crowd soon gathered where they held a candlelight vigil to mourn Hawkins.

The band was slated to headline the Festival Estero Picnic in Bogota on Friday and Lollapalooza Brasil in Sao Paulo on Sunday (Mar 27th). Both performances have been canceled. They had played Lollapalooza Chile on March 18th and Lollapalooza Argentina on March 20th.

The group was announced as a performer on the GRAMMYs for next weekend in Las Vegas. The fate of that performance and their upcoming extensive US tour are unclear at this point.

Many musicians have shared their thoughts on Hawkins’ death. Gene Simmons, Eddie Trunk, Joe Perry, Mick Jagger, Mike Portnoy, John Fogerty, Maren Morris, John Stamos, Axl Rose, and many more have spoken out since his death.
