Taylor Swift announces Central Park show

Swift made the announcement via Good Morning America

Taylor Swift has announced that she will perform at New York City’s Central Park on Thursday, August 22nd. The event will be part of Good Morning America‘s (GMA) Summer Concert Series.

“I can’t wait to perform in Central Park on August 22nd,” the singer shares in a video message that was shown in Times Square on Thursday (Aug 1st) morning.

Ticket details have yet to be announced, but GMA Summer Concert Series tickets are typically free.

Swift teased the announcement a day earlier, saying, “I have something to announce tomorrow, only on Good Morning America.”

Swift isn’t the only artist to perform at Central Park, but has some pretty big shoes to fill. Garth Brooks currently holds the concert attendance record with 900 thousand to 1.2 million people attending his free show in 1997. Could Swift break the 22 year old record?

The performance comes one day before Swift drops her seventh studio album, Lover. The album is her first since signing with Republic Records. The project will be available as a standard CD and in four deluxe editions via Target with each featuring two bonus audio memos from Swift’s songwriting sessions; a collection of exclusive content from Swift (varies by each version); poster (varies by each version); lined, blank journal pages and lyric book.
