Album drops Oct 21st

Taylor Swift is dropping a new album this fall. The pop star shared the news during her “Video of the Year” acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs on Sunday (Aug 28th), where she made history after taking home multiple awards and becoming “the only female artist to win ‘Best Direction’ twice for directing her own videos.”

“I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out October 21st,” she shared from the stage. “And I will tell you more at midnight.”

Swift kept her promise and unveiled the album cover, title and pre-order links for Midnights. The 13 song project will be available on CD, LP, cassette and digitally the same day via Republic Records. The vinyl will be pressed on unique moonstone blue marbled color vinyl with a a collectible album sleeve (each side features a different full-size photo of Taylor) with a full-size gatefold photo and collectible eight-page lyric booklet with never-before-seen photos. The CD and cassette will also feature the unique moonstone blue marbled design for the disc artwork and cassette shell, respectively, with the CD containing a 24-page booklet.

No song titles or singles have been unveiled as of press time. The front artwork of the album features the old-school style LP jackets with the song titles on the front. However, those are labeled Track One through Track Thirteen.

“We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t — right this minute — about to make some fateful life-altering mistake,” she writes in describing the collection.

She continues, “This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching — hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.

Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.”

Over the summer, Swift released her most recent track, “Carolina” from the Sony Pictures film adaptation of Where the Crawdads SingThe song appears during the film’s closing credits with the lyric video to be included on the Blu-ray edition due September 13th.

Midnights is her first all-new material since 2020’s Folklore and Evermore which were released five months apart and broke numerous records.

Swift, who is currently in the midst of releasing re-recorded versions of her first six studio albums following a public feud with her former label, Big Machine Label Group, most recently released Red (Taylor’s Version) which surpassed Spotify’s biggest opening day streams of all-time for a female with over 90 million, a record previously held by Swift herself. The album was Swift’s fifth consecutive album to exceed 50 million Spotify streams in 24 hours. The country-turned-pop star broke the record for the most-streamed album in a day by a female and the most-streamed female in a single day in Spotify history. Red (Taylor’s Version) immediately captured No. 1 on iTunes Overall Top Albums Chart and Apple Music.

With the three projects, Swift broke a 54 year record held by The Beatles in the United Kingdom for the fastest accumulation of three No. 1 albums. She captured her third chart-topping album in a span of 259 days with Fearless (Taylor’s Version), which followed Folklore on July 31, 2020 and Evermore on December 18, 2020.
