The song is the latest from their upcoming seven-song EP
On Friday (May 16th), neo-traditional country music sister-trio The Castellows surprised fans with the latest track from their forthcoming Homecoming EP, โBroke.โ Penned by the three sisters (Ellie Balkcom, Powell Balkcom, and Lily Balkcom) along with Erik Dylan, the track is steeped in country music tradition, illustrating a love story from the point of view of a coal minerโs wife.
โโBrokeโ was one of the first songs we wrote in town, so weโd been wanting to cut it for a really long time,โ The Castellows share. โThere are a lot of great songs about coal miners that are out there, and we kinda wanted to have our own. We created this story, and like any story, you connect with the emotions of the people in the song. โBrokeโ shows the artistic side of writing and storytelling through song. Weโve always loved songs that tell a story and lyrics that help you picture it in your head.โ
While on stage at their debut Stagecoach appearance last month, The Castellows announced their seven-track Homecoming EP, arriving May 30th. The deeply personal project captures the emotions and convictions they have felt over the past year through introspective storytelling, layered harmonies, and a distinctive neo traditional country sound. The Castellows strive for fans to not only get to know them as a band through this project, but also themselves.
The band will spend the summer on the road with Thomas Rhett for his Better in Boots Tour before heading out on their headlining The Homecoming Tour this fall. Kicking off September 13th in Austin, Texas, The Homecoming Tour will hit 15 cities across the country with more dates to be announced soon.
