Pop star teases album in new trailer

The Weeknd is set to release his long-awaited fifth album, Dawn FM, on Friday, January 7th. The pop star shared the news in a social media video on Monday (Jan 3rd).

Guests include Quincy Jones, Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Oneohtrix Point Never, Scarboroug and Jim Carrey. It’s presumed they will appear in the video for the song that was teased.

The video dubs the album “A new sonic universe from the mind of the Weeknd.”

The cryptic video, which leaves a lot to be imagined, ends with a DJ saying, “You are now listening to 103.5, DAWN-FM. You’ve been in the dark for way too long, it’s time to walk into the light and accept your fate with open arms.”

Take My Breath” is the first single from the project. It was released last summer after being teased by an array of tweets, culminating in an austere trailer during NBC’s Olympics Prime Time Show.

The album follows a variety of collaborations, remixes and reissued projects. His most recent album, the critically-acclaimed After Hours, was released in March of 2020, marking his fourth No. 1 album in the United States. It has since been certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA with over 15.7 billion streams. In addition to the United States, After Hours topped the charts in 20 additional nations, including Canada and the United Kingdom.
