‘The Wizard of Oz’ 75th anniversary gets RSD treatment

Warner Brothers is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the 1939 classic film, The Wizard Of Oz by reissuing its soundtrack on custom Emerald Green Vinyl for Record Store Day, Saturday, April 19th. The album also comes with a download code to get a newly discovered, unreleased original version of “If I Only Had A Brain” by Judy Garland and Ray Bolger.

Award Winning The Wizard Of Oz Historian and Author, John Fricke, describes the mood of the original version as a “very gently, almost quite, almost confessional version, kind of shy — not sad, but just kind of longing.”

Fricke states that Bolger was brought back in to re-cut his vocals after filming was complete to give it “more volume, more pep.” The second version was used for the film and its soundtrack counterpart, being featured on every reissue of both products.

Find a participating store at recordstoreday.com where you can also enter for a chance to win an LP Test Pressing of the special one-time only Record Store Day exclusive custom Emerald Green Vinyl and a copy of the 75th Anniversary Edition of the film on Blu-ray.
