Thomas Rhett is known for his single “Beer With Jesus,” which sparked a lot of conflict when it was released to country radio. However, he is also the son of country music singer/songwriter Rhett Akins who had major success as an artist in the ’90s and is successful songwriter these days. Thomas has been on tour with Jason Aldean and even wrote Jason’s latest single 1994, an ode to ’90s country crooner, Joe Diffie. He also just debuted a new single of his own titled, “It Goes Like This.”
The single fits the mainstream country music mold. He is singing about a girl who makes him want to write a song. I am a huge Thomas Rhett fan. I grew up listening to his dad’s music — Rhett Akins — so I was actually glad to hear he had a new single out. He has that country twang that you can’t deny and his voice is very unique. He stands out in the country music world for sure.
A line in the song that I really like is, “I’ve had a melody in my head since you walked in here and knocked me dead.” The song is mid tempo: not slow and not upbeat. There is no hiding the fact that Thomas Rhett is one heck of a songwriter. I guess it’s true what they say, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!”
