“What Goes Around Comes Around” will be available Feb 2nd
Expanding her astronomically successful TikTok persona and bringing it into the music studio, Mikaila Murphy, known by her millions of fans as Mikailadancer, has released her debut single, “What Goes Around Comes Around,” to coincide with her rocket fueled ascent towards 15 million TikTok followers. The song is a smooth and rhythmic R&B track that fuses a modern electronic sound.
The song’s lyrics, co-written with veteran songwriter Cassidi, reflects some painful and relatable struggles that Murphy has gone through in love, before setting her course as an outspoken advocate for positive body image and self esteem through dance, which led to her massive social media notoriety.
“It’s actually the most incredible, indescribable feeling in the world. I have grown up as a dancer and I never thought that I would ever dive into the world of singing, but I’ve always had a secret passion for it. I just didn’t think I could sing,” Murphy tells us exclusively in a video interview that can be seen in its entirely below. “Then the past couple of years, I’ve just really focused on taking vocal lessons, being in the studio, and concerning myself with artists so I could kinda learn how to be able to do that, too. So, now the fact that I’m dropping music, it’s insane.”
The music video for the debut single features Murphy’s real life love interest and fellow social media star, Austin Hines. It’s directed by celebrated artist photographer and video director, Maddie Cordoba, who has worked with artists Dove Cameron, Keke Palmer, Fifth Harmony among others.
The 21 year old TikTok star went from struggling dancer juggling background dancing gigs for A-list artists, auditions, and shifts at an LA area Target, to using her fearless body expression and classically trained dance prowess to build a million dollar mega influencer brand on social media in just over a year. Between collabs with artists like Iggy Azalea and corporate collabs with Too Faced Cosmetics, Fashion Nova, Canes Chicken, Songfluencer, Bang Energy Drinks, Romwe and Shein, Murphy’s brand is heavily in demand.
