Lee’s wife shares the news

It has been revealed that Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee broke his ribs after falling down stairs leaving a Nashville rental property. Lee’s wife, Brittany Furlan, shared the news in a video, explaining that Lee had fallen while heading to the airport to attend rehearsals for the Stadium Tour in Pennsylvania.

“We were staying at an old rental house in Nashville. It was a cool, old quirky house. But the stairs outside were made out of stones, and they were really uneven, and the roots were pushing them up from the tree — and everything was fine. I actually fell up the stairs a few times getting groceries, but whatever,” Furlan says.

“So, the day that we were leaving Nashville, our driver came and we had all this luggage and he wasn’t helping us. He just stayed in the car, and so Tommy was trying to carry all of our luggage for us. And he fell down these crazy stairs and broke — broke — four ribs. Not fractured, not bruised — broke. And it was crazy, ’cause I came out and he couldn’t breathe. It was really scary. He was on the ground, he was gasping for air. And he got on a plane that day still and went and did the rest of rehearsals in Pennsylvania. He went to the hospital in Pennsylvania when we landed and they were, like, ‘You have four broken ribs.’ They wanted to keep him there, but they he did not wanna stay. And he’s just a fighter. He’s the toughest guy I know. I mean, look at all his tattoos. He just really fights through the pain.”

The group had its highly anticipated long-awaited reunion on stage on June 16th when The Stadium Tour, featuring Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, kicked off in Atlanta after a two year delay due to the pandemic. The controversial musician played five songs with broken ribs before addressing the crowd that Tommy Clufetos would be taking over.

“Man ya’ll ain’t gonna believe this shit!… I broke four fucking ribs! But I’ve been resting and healing and even though the doctor tells me I shouldn’t play at all, you know I’m stubborn and I’ll beast through the pain every show for as many songs as I can!” he shared on social media without revealing details. “And have no fear, my boy Tommy Clufetos is here to help me out until I’m back at 100%… we’ve all been waiting years for this moment and there’s no way I’m missing this! On with the show!”

Since the tour’s launch, Lee has been performing three to five songs before turning over the sticks to Clufetos. Despite defying doctor’s orders, it appears Lee may be on the mend. Over the weekend in Philadelphia, our own Matt Bailey documented Lee performing eight of the band’s 15 songs on drums, including pulling double duty between drums and keys on “Home Sweet Home.”
