Tommy Lee records drums for Smashing Pumpkins album

The drummer will appear on one of the band’s two upcoming albums

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has announced that Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has recorded drums for one of the band’s upcoming two albums, Monuments To An Elegy.

The singer is updating fans on the recording process on the band’s website and writes, “Here’s a shot from the mission out west. Just finished round 1 of tracking drums with Tommy Lee for the new the Smashing Pumpkins album. Shockla-locka-boom. Yes, that T Lee for all 9 songs of ‘Monument To An Elegy.'”

It’s not clear if Lee is filling in for drummer Mike Byrne, who joined the band in 2009, or if Byrne is being replaced. It’s also unknown if Lee is recording drums on Day For Night as well.

Elegy is one of two albums the band plans to release in 2015, along with Day For Night. The Pumpkins revealed in March that they have inked a deal with BMG and will release Elegy first. Both projects are being recorded at the same time with plans to wrap by August 15th. A single is expected by the end of the year.

Corgan has reunited with producer Howard Willing, who produced Adore, for both projects.

The tentative track listing for Elegy is as follows and is subject to change.

1. Being Beige (World’s On Fire)
2. Anti-Hero
3. Tiberius
4. Run To Me
5. One And All
6. Drum And Fife
7. Dorian
8. Monuments
9. Anaise
