Trace Adkins drops cinematic ‘That Someday’

The revenge ballad was penned & recorded to accompany his role in a new action film

Trace Adkins releases โ€œThat Someday,โ€ a dusty revenge ballad that notably accompanies his role as Big Buck in the new action film, Day of Reckoning, in theaters today (Fri, Mar 28th). Capturing the spirit of the movie, Adkins personally penned the song with frequent collaborator and co-writer Casey Beathard (Eric Church, George Strait, Kenny Chesney), while Mickey Jack Cones (Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan) produced the track. Fittingly, it also plays during the closing credits, delivering a powerful final word.

On โ€œThat Someday,โ€ a stately clean guitar melody resounds over soft feedback accented by slide and dobro. A big screen-worthy tale unfolds across the verses until the climactic chorus where Adkins declares, โ€œToday is that someday, that one day Iโ€™ve been waiting on, that what goes around comes back around time to face the music song.โ€ At the same time, he issues a warning, โ€œThe devilโ€™s darkest fear is finally here.โ€ Following a powerful bridge, a wailing guitar solo cuts through a wall of reverb in dramatic fashion.

With the official music video directed by the movieโ€™s same director, Shaun Silva, and released in conjunction with the film, Adkins appears in Day of Reckoning alongside Zach Roerig, Cara Jade Myers, Billy Zane, Yelawolf, and Struggle Jennings.

The song follows last month’s release of “What Color’s Your Wild.” Written by Monty Criswell and Casey Beathard, the hard-driving anthem is dedicated to everything that keeps the excitement and inspiration coming, tapping the wisdom of โ€œdifferent strokes for different folks.โ€ Whether that happens to be painting the town red โ€“ or the magnetic pull of an empty canvas โ€“ Adkins lets loose in a free-wheeling send-up to whatever makes your heartbeat.

Adkins kicks off his headlining What Color’s Your Wild Tour tomorrow (Sat, Mar 29th) in Du Quoin, Illinois. The run will feature more than a dozen dates across the U.S. before wrapping October 27th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

It was just announced that Adkins will appear in I Can Only Imagine 2, set for release on March 20, 2026. Produced by Lionsgate, it serves as the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster hit I Can Only Imagine. Adkins will reprise his role as Scott Brickell.
