Rocker graced the Nashville stage for first time on Aug 2nd
Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil made his Grand Ole Opry debut on Tuesday (Aug 2nd) night. The rocker took to the stage at Nashville’s famed country music venue to perform the Crüe’s hits “Home Sweet Home” and “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)” with the house band and Cherish Lee, daughter of country legend Johnny Lee. He concluded his performance with a standing ovation.
“I moved to Tennessee seven years ago, and I live in Franklin out by Leipers Fork, and I see some friends and family out here, and I want to thank you guys for coming out,” he says prior to his performance. “This is really a chilling thing — place to be standing up here, you know.”
Neil was introduced by Tuesday night Opry host Bill Cody as “international superstar, accomplished businessman, heartfelt philanthropist, and his unmistakable voice led the greatest rock songs of a generation.” Following the performance, he received a sign commemorating his debut.
Neil’s appearance may seem out of the ordinary, but the Opry has a long-standing tradition of inviting guests outside of the country realm. This weekend, The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach will make his debut during a tribute to John Anderson. Also, Neil shared vocals with Justin Moore on “Home Sweet Home” when Big Machine Label Group released Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Mötley Crüe in 2014 featuring country renditions of the band’s music.
Neil is currently on a two week break from the Crüe’s The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Poison, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Classless Act. The trek kicks back off this weekend with two performances at Boston’s Fenway Park before wrapping September 9th in Las Vegas.
In February, The Stadium was expanded in the United States after 25 stops sold out, amassing over one million tickets sold to eager fans wanting to see Mötley Crüe return seven years after their Cessation of Touring agreement. The band destroyed the contract following a massive surge in new audience after the huge success of their Netflix biopic The Dirt.
