The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ makes Spotify history with four billion streams

The global pop star breaks his own record for most monthly listeners in Spotify history

The Weekndโ€™s hit song โ€œBlinding Lightsโ€ broke its own record and the Spotify record of most streams for a song in the platformโ€™s history.

In February 2023 he became the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners. As of today (Fri, Jan 12th), he is currently the top artist on the platform with 113 million monthly listeners.

The 80โ€™s nostalgic track โ€œBlinding Lightsโ€ was named the new No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 song of all time, surpassing Chubby Checkerโ€™s 1960 hit โ€œThe Twist.โ€

In 2021, the smash single broke chart records after it spent 52 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The feat it as the first song in the history of the chart (which began Aug 4, 1958) to spend a full year in the Top 10. The song premiered at No. 11 in November 2019 before hitting the Top 10 in February 2020, where it has remained ever since. Four of those weeks were spent at No. 1 in April and May with the track becoming the chart’s biggest hit of 2020.
