If you ever wondered what 80’s Euro pop would sound like today in 2017, Les Techno’s Whatever Happened to Les Techno?\ Is one way to find out. Although we can’t figure out who is asking whatever happened to Les Techno, a techno artist from New York City, his sort of 80’s/90’s inspired techno with some of today’s touches is what you’ll get when you listen to this EP. It’s a bit odd, but also listenable.
We will say this EP is well produced and it shows the musicianship of Les Techno. It comes after years of mixing, engineering and producing tracks for may acclaimed artists throughout his career. But it does seem to go all over the place that the EP just doesn’t have anything really holding it together. But that doesn’t mean the tracks are bad at all.
“Soul of the Machine” has a good rock sound, while “Salvation Remix” has a party-ish techno vibe. “Trophy Wife” is a good one and it’s the real standout track as it does get you thinking of the Euro stuff we got heavy exposure of during the 80’s.
Maybe with the full album we can get something much more solid but in the meantime, if you have the chance to listen to this one, it’s not the worse way to spend your time. There’s nothing groundbreaking here but it’s just some good track you may like.
