The only Japanese group to perform at Coachella 2025 continues their global rise with another extraordinary release
Japanese girl group XG has announced the re-release of their single โIn the Rain,โ originally from their second mini album Awe. The track is part of the release that marked the group’s debut on the Billboard 200 chart, representing yet another major achievement for the septet.
The song draws influence from the R&B genre, blending the sound of rainfall with delicate guitar melodies to create an immersive experience. It captures the emotional turmoil of going through a breakup, using the metaphor of rain to convey those feelings. Its melancholic and persistent atmosphere leaves a strong impression on listeners, with the continuous rain sounds evoking a silent yet powerful emotional resonanceโas if confronting oneโs innermost feelings.
The song is also part of the setlist for XGโs world tour, XG 1st World Tour The First Howl. The performance has received praise for its captivating choreography, which includes the use of umbrellas in a unique way that reflects XGโs innovative DNA.
The track “In the Rain x XDM,” also featured on the album, maintains the essence of the original while fusing it with an energetic EDM vibe, offering fans a fresh perspective on the original. Reborn with a powerful electronic sound, this version carries the spirit of the XDM Series, further expanding the special and distinctive musical world of XG.
The re-release also showcases a new visual concept for the group, with the members donning darker suits, enhancing excitement around the launch. Fans can expect to see a bold, new image of XG with this release.
In addition to the highly anticipated re-release, XG revealed they will be headlining the Sahara Stageโthe largest indoor stage at Coachella 2025. The group will perform at 10:55 pm local time this weekend. XG becomes the first Japanese act to receive this honor, adding another milestone to their meteoric career.
Following performances in Latin America (Sรฃo Paulo and Mexico City) in April, and a one-off show in Seattle, the group will wrap up the tour at the grand Tokyo Dome on May 14. This date also marks the release of their sixth single, “Million Places.”
