Time Inc.’s 2017 ESSENCE Festival presented by Coca-Cola, now among the largest consumer live events in the nation, has announced that beloved R&B quartet XSCAPE will kickoff its comeback tour at the festival, for the group’s first full live show in over 15 years. The group is slated to perform on Sunday, July 2nd – a night headlined by Festival first-timer Chance the Rapper, along with Master P, Solange and more – at the Superdome in New Orleans, LA.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the return of Xscape than in New Orleans with our fans at the world famous, Essence Festival,” the group says in a statement. “Essence Fest is so much more than a music festival, it’s a celebration of culture, music and entertainment. We are excited and honored to be included in an incredible line up of artists and performers, including the living legend, ‪Diana Ross!”

XSCAPE, who recently announced the reunion of all four original members Kandi Burruss, LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott and Tameka “Tiny” Harris, will perform a full set from their chart-topping portfolio of classic R&B staples in one of the festival’s four intimate Superlounges.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the return of Xscape than in New Orleans with our fans at the world famous, Essence Festival.”

John Legend, Mary J Blige, Chaka Khan, Master P, Jill Scott and more are set to perform at the three day event June 29th through July 2nd. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. Free daytime experiences will also be available.

XSCAPE returns with a biopic in the works that takes fans behind-the-scenes of their comeback and to reveal the truth

“The docuseries is going to show us coming back together to make history again,” Harris tells ESSENCE. “You’ll get to see the process of us getting back in the lab and learning each other all over again as adults. Even though we’ve been friends since we were teenagers, we’re all grown now so, it’s about learning each other’s habits and ways of thinking today. Plus, figuring out the music and choreography.”

They group also confirms new music will be included in the biopic that celebrates their 25th anniversary in 2018.

“Next year will be 25 years since we released our first number one single, ‘Just Kickin’ It,’ Scott states. “So, we’re doing our biopic and within the biopic, we’ll be doing original music. Not a whole album but, you’ll be able to get some new songs.”
