Interscope recording artists Zedd and Aloe Blacc have teamed up to create a brand-new song entitled “Candyman” — a modern reinterpretation of Sammy Davis Jr.’s 1972 classic “The Candy Man.” The song, which was written by Zedd and Aloe Blacc (who performs the vocals) and produced and mixed by Zedd, is available for purchase and streaming via all digital partners. A video, directed by members of the Swedish directing collective StyleWar and featuring both Zedd and Aloe Blacc, is below.
The video debuted on primetime television in a commercial spot on Monday, February 29th, during the season premiere of The Voice on NBC.
Zedd and Blacc came together to create “Candyman” to kick off M&M’s year-long celebration of the candy maker’s 75th anniversary. “I’m super excited to team up with Aloe to finally share our reimagined version of ‘Candyman.’ We were totally inspired to put a completely fresh spin on the song, which is already such a classic,” says Zedd. “I’m inspired by greats like Sammy Davis, Jr., so I was really excited to revisit “The Candy Man” with Zedd and make it our own,” adds Aloe Blacc.
Zedd and Aloe Blacc teaming up with M&M’s is the latest in a series of brand partnerships featuring Interscope Records’ artists. Additionally, X Ambassadors, Imagine Dragons, and Gwen Stefani have collaborated with major brands to build awareness among millennial and Generation Z consumers.
“We are thrilled to partner with M&M’s to help them celebrate this milestone anniversary,” says Head of Strategic Marketing Interscope Geffen A&M Daniel Sena. “The depth and variety of Interscope’s artist roster has enabled us to be at the forefront in forging these unique brand partnerships.”
“We are thrilled to be a part of a historic moment in pop-culture history, the first-ever partnership between a brand and a musical powerhouse to remake an iconic classic for the digital age,” said Berta de-Pablos Barbier, Vice President, Marketing, Mars Chocolate North America. “And what better way to celebrate M&M’s 75th anniversary than with a sweet collaboration between our iconic characters Red and Yellow and international superstars Zedd and Aloe Blacc.”
