Snoop wants to turn label into NFT label

Iconic Death Row Records albums from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have been pulled from streaming services. Snoop’s 1993 debut Doggystyle, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, the Above the Rim soundtrack, Tha Dogg Pound debut Dogg Food are among the albums that have gone missing on streaming platforms.

The news comes following Snoop’s acquisition of Death Row Records last month and his desire to turn the brand into an NFT label.

“Death Row will be an NFT label,” the rapper shared in a Clubhouse conversation last month. “We will be putting out artists through the metaverse. Just like we broke the industry when we was the first independent to be major, I want to be the first major in the metaverse.”

On February 11th, he released his latest album, B.O.D.R. (Back On Death Row), on the Blockchain.

“If anything is constant, it’s that the music industry will always be changing,” the rapper shares. “Blockchain tech has the power to change everything again and tip the table in favor of the artists and the fans, and we’re going to be right at the front of the pack with this Gala Music deal.”

2Pac’s All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory are still streaming because the label no longer owns those master recordings.

Snoop has been an avid support of the NFT movement. He’s recently teamed with BossLogic and MakersPlace for SUPERCUZZ, a limited edition Genesis NFT collection. This NFT collection features original artworks by BossLogic which includes animated comic book covers of Snoop Dogg as SUPERCUZZ, a next-generation superhero born from the streets of Angel City, who enjoys the high-flying lavish lifestyle as a self-made crypto-trillionaire but also dedicates himself to smoking the forces of evil and weeding out crime.

Last year, he also designed his own unique Hoverboard NFT in partnership with Jadu. Jadu Jetpacks designed for AR gameplay with NFT avatars in the metaverse have quickly made a name for themselves within the crypto community.

Last fall, he also starred in the first-ever NFT sitcom with the Harlem Globetrotters. The limited edition drop collection also included Snoop Dogg’s new Harlem Globetrotters theme song.
