Morgan has written two of Jason’s Aldean’s latest hits
John Morgan is a sought-after songwriter who has written eight songs from Jason Aldean’s recent double album, Macon, Georgia, including the multi-award winning and Grammy-nominated multi-week No. 1 hit, “If I Didn’t Love You” that features Carrie Underwood and Aldean’s most recent multi-week No. 1, “Trouble With A Heartbreak.”
Morgan is also pursuing a solo career, having written all of his own songs and recently signing with Aldean’s Night Train Records imprint with BBR Music Group. With three of his own sad songs and two Aldean recorded, he clearly knows how to write about heartbreak. His latest gritty breakup tune, “Good With Goodbye,” finds the protagonist turning to his vices to ease the sting but unfortunately finds “nothing goes good with goodbye.”
Morgan represented his home state of North Carolina on NBC’s American Song Contest, making it to the semi-finals.
Morgan talks to us about his journey began with an only-in-Nashville story involving Uber drivers and impressive demos led to John landing a writing session with Aldean’s longtime band members Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy, who then shared their material with Aldean. Morgan tells us how telemarketers nearly cost him his career, but now Morgan, Aldean, Allison and Kennedy frequently write together and the country superstar co-produces his music.
