Band cancels following death of Taylor Hawkins

Foo Fighters have announced they’re canceling their forthcoming 2022 tour following the shocking death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. The band shared the news on Tuesday (Mar 29th), stating they need time to heal.

“It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins,” the band writes. “We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”

The band was slated to perform Sunday on the GRAMMYs in Las Vegas. They were set to kick of an extensive 2022 tour in May that would’ve seen the band hit global markets including sold out dates in Australia. Other 2022 dates included a headlining performance at Welcome to Rockville 2022, Boston Calling, and Aftershock, among others.

The tour was in support of the February 2021 release of its 10th album, Medicine at Midnight via Roswell/RCA.

Hawkins was found dead in his Bogota, Colombia hotel room before a planned performance on Friday (Mar 25th) after complaining of chest pains. A preliminary toxicology report from a Hawkins urine sample has found 10 different substances in his body at the time of death. The Office of the Attorney General in Colombia indicates marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids were among those substances.

Authorities are still investigating the death. Hawkins has been open about past drug use which nearly cost him his life in 2001.

Last month, the group released its first-ever horror comedy film, Studio 666 in theaters nationwide. In the film, the legendary band moves into an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much anticipated tenth studio album. Once in the house, Grohl finds himself grappling with supernatural forces that threaten both the completion of the album and the lives of the band.
