Lucas Hoge is partnering with Yellowstone actor Forrie J. Smith on his latest release “When A Cowboy Prays. The stripped, pedal steel-laced ballad features Hoge’s famous baritone vocals and Smith’s husky narration to dig into the throughline of faith in the cowboy culture. Co-written by Hoge with Justin Lantz and produced by Forest Glen Whitehead, “When a Cowboy Prays” was inspired by his small-town beliefs and his faith.

“I so enjoyed writing ‘When a Cowboy Prays’ with Justin Lantz,” states Hoge. It’s a song that encompasses how so many of us are feeling in the world as we know it. The ever-changing ‘frontier’ of life – it often breaks our hearts to see the things that we know and love slowly slip away. I really love performing this song, and it was so great getting to collaborate on it with Forrie.”

Hoge and Smith met and became fast friends, and when Smith first heard the song, he asked to be a part of it. The creator, who plays Lloyd on Yellowstone, has released two spoken word-type singles – “The Wind,” and “Let It Be Known,” and blends his talents with Hoge’s in “When A Cowboy Prays.”

Hoge is set to release his first album since 2017, Book About Me, in early 2025. The project will feature 10 songs about growing up in the heartland of America and his experiences around the world – everything from growing up on a small Midwest farm to creating and playing the Belize Songwriter Festival, which inspired his tune “Fruity Drink.”

Previous album release Dirty South reached No. 1 on the Billboard sales chart and was in the Billboard Top 5 Country Albums in its first week.
