The band has canceled its 2025 tour
3 Doors Down frontman and founder Brad Arnold has revealed that he’s been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer. The rocker shared the news in a social media video today (Wed, May 7th), stating the band’s summer tour dates have been canceled because of it.
“I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today,” he says. “So I’d been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal [cell] carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung. And it’s stage four, and that’s not real good. But you know what? We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything, so I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all. But it is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer. And we’re sorry for that. And I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get. And I think it is time for me to maybe go listen to [3 Doors Down’s] ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit.”
The band was set to support select dates of Creed’s Summer of 99 Tour this year, starting on July 9th. The band was also scheduled to perform at several festivals this year, including Welcome to Rockville and Boardwalk Rock. It’s unclear who may replace them at any of the previously scheduled shows.
Arnold co-formed 3 Doors Down as drummer and vocalist in Escatawpa, Mississippi in 1996 with guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell. Rhythm guitarist Chris Henderson joined in 1998 with Greg Upchurch replacing Arnold on drums in 2005. Chet Roberts replaced Matt Roberts on lead guitar in 2012 with Justin Biltonen taking over bass duties in 2013.
The band rose to international fame with their debut single, “Kryptonite,” in 2000, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their debut album, The Better Life, released in 2000, was certified seven-times platinum in the United States. The band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy nomination and two American Music Awards.
