Wilson breaks record previously held by a rapper
Last night (Wed, Aug 23rd), country sensation Lainey Wilson broke the New York State Fair’s all time concert attendance record, drawing in more than 53,200 audience members. The previous record was held by rapper Nelly with an estimated 43,000 people in attendance in 2022. The country starlet graced the stage and captivated the crowd with a melody of boot-stomping hits including “Watermelon Moonshine,” “Things a Man Oughta Know” and “Heart Like a Truck.”
Earlier this week, Wilson’s single, Watermelon Moonshine” off her Bell Bottom Country album peaked at the No. 9 spot on country music radio this week. The record jumped three spots, this makes the track her fastest growing single and the fastest growing single by a solo female artist in five years, the last being “Cry Pretty” by Carrie Underwood in 2018.
As a rising force throughout the music industry, there’s no sign of Wilson slowing down anytime soon. Already this year, Wilson has won four ACM Awards, two CMT Music Awards, completed a 28-date sold out headlining tour, been honored as Billboard Women in Music’s 2023 Rulebreaker, and started touring stadiums with Luke Combs as support on his World Tour. Wilson’s had a busy summer already, performing at festivals including Lollapalooza and Watershed, amidst headlining Red Rocks Amphitheatre and her first arena show at Mohegan Sun. Next week, she embarks on Hardy’s The Mockingbird & The Crow Tour.
Over Labor Day Weekend, Wilson returns to her native Louisiana to support Garth Brooks at the inaugural Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff presented by the Louisiana Office of Tourism. The music and entertainment event to celebrate the start of the 2023 college football season, will be held Saturday, September 2nd, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans and will also feature the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The event is expected to be an annual Labor Day weekend affair, adding another world-class musical occasion to the New Orleans calendar.
