The original song appears in her forthcoming directorial debut documentary
Grammy-nominated global superstar Demi Lovato has released “You’ll Be OK, Kid,” an original song from her forthcoming documentary Child Star.
“Working on Child Star was a deeply reflective experience for me. It allowed me to deep dive into emotions from my childhood, while also connecting with others who had so many shared experiences,” Lovato says. “As we were editing the film, I became very inspired to write a song. The idea of connecting with my younger self through the pain and hardships that came along with child stardom was so important to me. I wrote the song as a letter to my inner child, and I hope that it can give others an opportunity to connect with their inner child as well.”
Child Star explores the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world’s most well-known former child stars. Through celebrity interviews, vérité scenes, and archival footage, this film deconstructs the stages of earlier stardom and looks at the entertainment system over the last century. Lovato sits down with iconic former child stars such as Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven-Symoné, JoJo Siwa, Alyson Stoner, and more, to reflect on their personal experiences working in the entertainment industry in never-before-heard stories. Together they take a look at the next generation of child actors and how to move forward in an ever-changing landscape. The film will mark Lovato’s directorial debut with Nicola Marsh co-directing with OBB Pictures, SB Films, and DLG producing.
Child Star is directed by Demi Lovato and Nicola Marsh. The film is produced by OBB’s Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Miranda Sherman, Kfir Goldberg and Demi Lovato. It is executive produced by Nicola B. Marsh, SB’s Scooter Braun, Scott Manson, Jen McDaniels, and James Shin. Glenn Stickley serves as co-executive producer.
The film premieres on Hulu on September 17th.
