People’s Choice Country Awards crowns winners

The show aired live from Nashville

Tonight (Thurs, Sept 26th), global icon Shania Twain hosted the People’s Choice Country Awards, which celebrated the year’s greatest accomplishments in music, honored industry luminaries, and featured magnetic performances. The show aired on NBC and Peacock from the world-famous Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

After opening the show by floating down on a heart to join a group of cowboy-clad dancers, Twain dazzled the crowd with six colorful outfit changes throughout the night. She remarked about being “starstruck” amidst country music royalty in the room like Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban. During the show, she recognized women who dominated the charts this year and the ingenuity of crossover stars and boundary breakers.

Miranda Lambert received the Country Icon Award for her decades-long career, during which she’s built an authentic, female-forward brand of country that has shaped the industry. Parker McCollum, who collaborated with Lambert on her new song “Santa Fe,” presented her with the award, nodding to her incredible talent, longevity and influence. Lambert got the crowd on their feet as she performed a medley of her hits, including “Kerosene” and “Dammit Randy.” In her acceptance speech, she acknowledged that it’s been a lot of “years, beers, tears and Tito’s, if [she’s] being honest.”

After performing his hit song “Fiddle in the Band” earlier in the show, Kane Brown was honored with the Country Champion Award for his passion for service and groundbreaking contributions to the country music industry and beyond. Bailey Zimmerman, who joined Brown on his In The Air Tour, presented the multi-platinum singer-songwriter with the award, noting that he “gives back not for headlines or pats on the back [but because he’s] always there doing the right thing.” Kane accepted the award, delivering an empowering message to the next generation.

The biggest names in country performed their new singles and fan-favorite hits – Brad Paisley performed “Mud On The Tires” and “Truck Still Works,” Kelsea Ballerini performed “Two Things,” Keith Urban performed “Messed Up As Me,” Lady A performed “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” Machine Gun Kelly performed “Country Road” and “Lonely Road,” Parker McCollum performed “What Kinda Man,” and The War And Treaty performed “Amen.”

Artists took the stage to accept awards throughout the night – Shaboozey was crowned The New Artist of 2024 and Dan + Shay was named The Group/Duo of 2024. “Lonely Road” by Machine Gun Kelly featuring Jelly Roll took home the award for The Crossover Song of 2024, Dasha’s song “Austin (Boots Stop Workin’)” was named The Female Song of 2024, and Old Dominion’s “Different About You” received The Group/Duo Song of 2024.
