Charles Wesley Godwin to drop ‘Lonely Mountain Town’ EP

The seven-song EP features collaborations with Ernest & Scott Avett

Charles Wesley Godwin will release Lonely Mountain Town EP on February 28th via Big Loud. The seven-song project features his new single, “It’s The Little Things,” and collaborations with Ernest and Scott Avett.

In the 17 months since the release of his breakout album Family Ties, whose standout single “All Again” is officially gold, Godwin’s career has been on a decidedly upward trajectory. The EP is a quieter, more contemplative affair than its predecessor.

Written principally on the road, Lonely Mountain Town is a collection of snapshots and quiet moments in life. The sort of poetic musings that find Godwin raking through situations with a fine-tooth comb and peeling back the layers on the most delicate situations thrown our way.

“These are character songs,” Godwin explains. “Most of them aren’t about my life. They’re just little pieces that I’ve taken from traveling.”

Such unobstructed creativity allowed Godwin to work on the EP with musicians he’d long admired. Working with labelmate Ernest on “Dead to Rights” taught Godwin how sometimes the best songs can be written without painstakingly obsessing over the smallest detail. The set also features a cover of Jason Molina’s “Hammer Down” with Scott Avett.

Now, as he heads back out on the road this winter and spring with his longtime band the Allegheny High, playing a slew of sold-out shows across the country while also releasing Lonely Mountain Town, Godwin is thrilled with where things stand.
