Finneas reveals the official music video for his popular song “2001,” from his critically acclaimed sophomore release For Cryin’ Out Loud! via Interscope Records. Directed by Claudia Sulewski, the playful music video stars Finneas, a lovestruck actor on-set yearning for his nonchalant on-screen director, played by actress and singer/songwriter Kate Hudson.
“When I first started conceptualizing this music video, I knew I wanted to pay homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey, with nods to some of the film’s most iconic set ups like the fisheye lens and the upside-down sequence, along with a few little easter eggs from the behind-the-scenes of the film (Finneas shaking his head while traveling through space, the diorama reveal at the end).To play off Finneas’s lyrics, I wanted to mix in some light, cheeky moments between Finneas and Kate. An actor hopelessly in love with his director, who couldn’t care less and is only focused on making a great film,” states director Claudia Sulewski.
The video follows the ten-time Grammy and two-time Academy Award-winning Finneas’ sold-out headline tour across the U.K., Europe, New Zealand, Australia and North America this year, as well as his highly lauded television scoring debut for Alfonso Cuarón’s acclaimed Apple TV+ limited series Disclaimer.
This summer will see Finneas and his band return to Europe for multiple high-profile festival slots in London, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain and more before returning to North America for appearances at this year’s Osheaga Festival, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.
