Flat River Band teams with Oak Ridge Boys for ‘Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight’ cover

The song is now available digitally

Flat River Band releases their new version of the No. 1 hit “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight” featuring The Oak Ridge Boys. Written by Donovan Cowart and Rodney Crowell, and produced by Tre Corley and Flat River Band, the song captures the spirit of timeless country music with a fresh, heartfelt take on the classic.

This collaboration marks a full-circle moment for Flat River Band. Duane Allen of The Oak Ridge Boys has been a longtime supporter of the trio, having worked with them on the 2018 holiday film The Least of These, A Christmas Story, where Flat River Band provided the entire soundtrack. Since then, The Oak Ridge Boys have continued to follow the trio’s career closely, becoming fans of their music and consistently praising their signature harmonies.

Duane Allen of The Oak Ridge Boys shed light on the collaboration, saying, “It’s a great compliment and we think it’s an honor to be asked. I love the Flat River Band. We did a movie together, a lot of people might not know that, but we did a Christmas movie and they did the music for the whole soundtrack. I became a follower of theirs, a fan of theirs. I’ve been listening to a bunch of the things they’ve been putting out for several years now, and it’s great to see all of them here in our hometown of Hendersonville, TN.”

“When we were kids, we couldn’t wait to hop off the bus and race home to catch reruns of Dukes of Hazzard. I still vividly remember the episode where Roscoe set up a speed trap and JD Hogg had The Oak Ridge Boys perform ‘Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight.’ It was such a memorable moment for us. Now, being able to perform that song live and in studio with The Oak Ridge Boys feels like a childhood dream come true,” the Flat River Band shares.

Flat River Band’s version of “Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight” blends their authentic sound with the legendary voices of The Oak Ridge Boys, celebrating a shared love of roots music and storytelling. With its rich harmonies and heartfelt delivery, the song reminds listeners of the power of collaboration and community in country music.

“Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight” was originally recorded by Emmylou Harris in 1978 before the Oaks released their version as the third single from The Oak Ridge Boys Have Arrived, a year later. The song marked the Oaks’ second No. 1 single.
