The band is the latest to join the elite club
MGMT’s iconic single “Kids” from their debut album Oracular Spectacular has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, making it the latest song to enter the platform‘s Billions Club.
Written by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, “Kids” was originally released in October 2008 and has since become a defining anthem of indie electro-pop. Fifteen years later, the song continues to captivate new generations through music streaming and a nostalgic revival on TikTok.
“Kids” was a significant chart success globally. It topped the charts in Norway and reached No. 9 in Ireland. The song also entered the Top 40 in six other countries. In the US, the song peaked at No. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 17 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart, and No. 9 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The song earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
